Greenscape's Six-Step Lawn Maintenance Program

Our six-step lawn maintenance program is designed to develop a strong healthy root system resulting in a thick green lawn. We use a slow release organic granular fertilizer rather than the less effective synthetic liquid fertilizers. Our granular fertilizer drops to the soil surface so that nutrients can be absorbed where your lawn needs to be fed - through the root system. This provides for a longer-lasting balanced feeding with immediate greening, but without excessive top growth. Here are our six steps to a thicker, greener, healthier lawn:

Season

Application

Benefits

1. Early Spring (April)

Slow-release granular fertilizer with crabgrass preventer.

Stimulates early spring greening and recovery from the stress of winter. Stops crabgrass from germinating

2. Late Spring (May/June)

Broadleaf weed control.

Knocks out more than 40 types of broadleaf weeds, including those most common in our area: dandelions, plantain, ivy, clover, and violets.

3. Early Summer (June)

Slow-release granular fertilizer.

Prepares your lawn for the summer heat which can cause stress on your lawn.

4. Summer (August)

Slow release granular fertilizer.

Provides continual feeding to help keep your lawn thick and healthy.

5. Late Summer (August/September)

Broadleaf weed control.

Targets weeds that germinate through the summer.

6. Fall Winterizer (October/November)

Slow-release granular fertilizer.

Encourages root development to help your lawn through winter stress. Also encourages early green-up in spring.

Our technicians are are licensed by the state of Wisonsin and are trained in the use of environmentally sound methods.

The cost of our lawn fertilization and weed control is based on the size of your property. Contact us and we will be happy to come out, discuss the condition of your lawn, and give you a free estimate.

Lawn Core Aeration

Soil compaction is a significant problem for many lawns. Tightly packed soil with little pore space limits the movement of air, water, and nutrients in the soil and hinders root penetration. This leads to excessive thatch build up. Thatch is a layer of living and dead organic matter between the grass leaves and the soil's surface. Too much- over 1/2 an inch thick- creates a favorable environment for pests and disease.

Thatch build up Results of Core Aeration

Core aeration opens up pore space in your lawn by removing small cores or plugs of soil, creating small holes which provide room for air, water, nutrients, and root growth. This reduces thatch accumulation and improves the depth and extent of your lawn's root system.

After aerifying the small soil plugs that have been pulled to the surface are left on top of your lawn to act as a topdressing. These plugs will begin to break apart and disappear within a week or two. At that point your lawn will have already begun forming a stronger root system.

Most lawns will benefit from an annual aeration, either in Spring or Fall. This is especially true for lawns growing in clay soils and those exposed to heavy traffic- walking, playing, and even mowing are forms of traffic that compact soil and stress lawns. Lawns that receive regular aerations will be healthier, stronger, easier to maintain, and have fewer weed and pest problems.

Insect and Disease Control

Our technicians will evaluate your property free of charge to detemine if insects or diseases are present. When damage is present we can recommend the most effective treatment for your lawn.
